Art Classes in Brisbane and in the Bush

Picture
My art classes are designed for everyone from beginners to  experienced artists wanting to improve their work or learn new techniques.   I believe there is no such thing as someone who "can't draw a straight line" or who  "can't draw to save myself".  Everyone can be an artist and enjoy it.

Classes and workshops are held in my own studio in the Toowong area (see the contact page for full address). Workshop locations to be advised.

The current programme includes:
  • Adult Beginners (weekly and once a month on a Saturday)
  • Adults Learning and Improving (Once a month on a Saturday and once a week at night)
  • Workshops (see programme below)
  • Childrens Classes (weekly)
This programme will be expanded and continued as time progresses, so please check back, or click here to subscribe to my mailing list.

For further information, including location and to register for classes, please contact me. Scroll down for further details, including costs.

Adult Beginners (weekly)
I have developed an outline for you to cover drawing and painting each week.  We will work through a series of easy drawing exercises to help you to develop the use of line and dimension and eventually to develop a style that suits you.  We will use a variety of media including graphite, charcoal and ink. The painting segment each week will concentrate on developing your own style and realising that painting is all about having a good time with your creativity and just letting things develop at their own pace.  My mantra to students is " Do not compare yourself with others.  And don't compare this week with last week.  Give it some time and relax.".

This is an important workshop for all painters who are interested in painting the bush from the Scenic Circle to the Desert. There will be an emphasis on using and mixing Australian colours, subtlety of tints and contrasting tones. You can use any medium but there will be an emphasis on acrylics. We will look at colour theory as it applies to Australian landscapes and develop composition skills.

A combination and variety of media will be encouraged.

 4. Charcoal Portraits
Workshop - 23rd November
This is a workshop for all those people who want to know how I work so cleanly with charcoal and how I incorporate collage into my pieces. I will concentrate on showing you some essential composition ideas for figurative work. We will also do some drawing exercises that you can use to free you up and move yourself into the creative side of your brain. This is not about copying my work.  I always find in this workshop that everyone quickly develops their own style.
